Art, celebrity and film: three very good reasons to visit Aspen this summer. Sure to steal the spotlight is Aspen Filmfest’s Best in Show, a one-of-a-kind celebrity-infused public art event.
Aspen Filmfest is unleashing the talents of celebrity artists to paint life-size Labrador retrievers that will be displayed throughout Aspen and neighboring communities. Film celebrities already signed-on to showcase their painterly talents include Jack Nicholson, Salma Hayek, Joaquin Phoenix, Goldie Hawn, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Kevin Costner and Sally Field, just to name a few.
After the official launch in mid-June and a parade down Main Street on the 4th of July, each “star” dog will be auctioned off at a singular benefit event on August 1st-the proceeds of which will support Aspen Filmfest’s extensive year-round youth education programs.
For those not able to join in on the benefit auction, additional celebrity dogs will be auctioned off online through Charity Folks (http://www.charityfolks.com) September 1-15, 2006. Look for Aspen Filmfest’s Best in Show splash page on the Charity Folks website starting in June.
