» Artist Yutaka Sone to Launch Giant Dice Down SuperPipe «
Japanese artist Yutaka Sone is in town to present a performance artwork titled Mt. 66. This very unique happening begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Aspen Art Museum with improvisational music by the “Aspen Powder Cactus Band”. Sunday Feb. 19th, at approximately 2:10 p.m., a helicopter will arrive at the museum to airlift two eight-foot-cubed, multi-colored dice to Buttermilk Mountain and place them at the top of the SuperPipe.
At 3:35 p.m. sharp, a snow cat will “toss” the dice down the giant half pipe. Sone says he is excited to see his dice “come down the pipe crazy style.” During the event, there will be complimentary soup and beer at Bumps and a drawing for some fun prizes.
Yutaka Sone grew up in Japan and has been living and working in Los Angeles for the past six years. An avid skier and mountain climber, Sone is a fan of all things “X”. His X-Art Show of snow inspired artworks opens at the Aspen Art Museum with a reception on Thursday, February 16, 6 - 8 p.m., and will be on view through April 16, 2006.
